Wood School Bali was opened in 2013 by Director and Founder, Arul Selven, a Neohumanist Educator, to serve the needs of our growing community. The aim was to create a school that would operate on a new and progressive model of education, focusing on alternative education. The beautiful heritage land of Tjok Agung Pejeng provided the perfect location for this alternative school project, which is based on the teachings of P.R. Sarkar, the founder of Neohumanist Education. A school with a spiritual approach to education, aimed at developing well-rounded children while incorporating local wisdom, was born. The school has grown organically from just two teachers and two students, without any outside funding, to the bustling early years, primary, and upper years of today. We are currently only able to accept a very limited number of new students, and only as spots become available, as the school remains dedicated to keeping our community harmonious with open-minded parents and families that resonate with our alternative and progressive education model.

The Wood School Bali is located in the village of Pejeng, in Ubud, Bali. This alternative education institution is built on land that has a rich heritage influenced by both Hinduism and Buddhism. The surrounding village of Pejeng is home to three well-known temples: Kebo Edan, Penataran Sasih, and Pusering Jagad. It also boasts numerous ancient artifacts, including the 'Moon of Pejeng,' which is the oldest single-cast bronze kettle drum in the world and the largest known relic from Southeast Asia’s Bronze Age. Wood School Bali is very proud to support the foundation of Yayasan Ananda Seva Dharma, a Children's Home in Singaraja in the north of the island, which additionally promotes alternative education through a small school running onsite for impoverished youth. This initiative aligns with the principles of neohumanist education, focusing on the holistic development of children.
